The four years pass in High School and it rolls around to senior year: top of the chain, top of the school and top of new experiences.

So what does being the top of the chain entail?

  1. Seniority. Yes this is a thing; seniors rule the school.
  2. Activities make it fun: such as the senior luau, barbeque, and grad bash trip, awards, and senior takeover day.
  3. GRADUATION
  4. Respect from elders.
  5. A SLIGHT feeling of independence.
  6. Prom! Although Homecoming is a routine, prom is like no other.

“It feels really good to be the alpha,” said Hector Nieto, a senior.

But.  The myriad myths are immediately dispelled.

  1. You thought the principal favors all seniors a special card for unlimited hall wandering.
  2. When you turn 18, legal age to vote, you thought your parents would treat you like an adult.
  3. You thought teachers would love you just because of senior immunity.
  4. Homework no longer existed.
  5. “Okay, I got this! I will have so much motivation to finish this work.” That’s what you thought.
  6. Wait, my mailbox isn’t overflowing with acceptance letters!
  7. Prom was so much fun. Uh…
  8. The senior prank will be the most epic and funny in the history of the school. No.
  9. Senior skip day! We’ll be such rebels we’ll climb Mt. Everest.
  10. At graduation, you think you’ll strut like a model.

So, what do the upcoming seniors need to know?

  1. At best you may or may not get a better parking spot.
  2. Your parents will always have their way, and your curfew may last until age 35.
  3. Detention isn’t just a place for freshman!
  4. Most. Homework. Ever.
