This year South’s Wolfpack wrestling team sent one wrestler in this year’s championship. Although Jordari Rene didn’t ultimately triumph, South is still proud.
Jordari has been wrestling for four years, and his shot at state competition is every wrestler’s dream.
“I worked very hard and dreamed of this moment for so many years, and I’ve finally achieved my dream,” Jordari said with pride.
Wrestling wasn’t what Jordari originally wanted to do.
He tried out for football his freshman year. He played offensive line with the 2012-2013 Wolfpack squad who dominated every team that was courageous enough to step on the field.
That year, the football team won every game by at least 50+ points and ended the season scoring 293 points and only giving up 14.
Jordari wasn’t satisfied with his playing time, so he decided to take the journey to wrestling.
At the state competition, he made it to the second round where he was defeated by a student from Miami MacArthur South Senior High School.
“I got the take down in the last 10 seconds of the match, and I was down by one point. I got the take down with 5 seconds to spare, and the referee who had been targeting me all match didn’t give me my hard earned point so I lost,” he said.
As devastating and bizarre as that sounds Jordari said he wasn’t upset at all.
“Sadly I realized that life won’t go your way all the time but you have to keep your head up and keep moving forward,” he said.
These are inspiring words by the senior. And, his wrestling journey is continuing after high school because he has a scholarship offer from UCF Knights to continue his career.
