Petting Zoo Ostrich Ride

Brian Aragon

2-toed legs are an unlikely menace.

A savage that ravages rodents

Swallowing their hollow lives

Ending the sand runt left in the dust

You’re next. And I won’t hide.

I’m not your ride. Your race. Your joke.

I’ll beat you with Bruce Lee kicks until your soul evaporates in air.

You categorize me as a sturdy bird with extraordinary pace.

But I’ll scramble your $2 ticket like I’ll scramble your mind.

They’ll find you empty like my eggs when you steal my yolk

I’ll run circles around you and your winding line

And choke you in a vortex of molt and smoke at the country fair.
