A Riverdale Raider has entered The Den as the new athletic director. He’s Christopher Harris, the newest member of  the Wolfpack family.

Mr. Harris was a physical education teacher and football coach at Riverdale High School. He was involved in sports throughout his own high school career and college including football, basketball, and track. With his knowledge of sports, he’s a great asset to South Fort Myers high school.

This position opened up when Mr. Payne decided not to be the athletic director.

“Mr. Harris applied and after interviewing everybody he came out as the obvious clear cut winner,” said Principal Ed Matthews.

Mr. Harris came from a successful school from North Carolina that won multiple state championships, and he was a big reason why that happened, Matthews explained.

South Fort Myers is known more than an academy school and now Mr. Harris wants us to be known as an “athletic school.”

“If people can’t go to Fort Myers or can’t go to Cypress, they know they can come here and have a good relationship with their coaches and have a lasting impact in sports,” Mr. Harris said.

Mr. Harris has the understanding of student athletes and business of it.

He said being a student athletes can have a big role on a student’s development.

He said being a student athlete teaches you time management with school work as well as working outside of school. This helps in college.  Additionally, facing adversity on the playing field helps you out in the long run.

Mr. Harris has now made students become connected with sports at South. He manages the @sfmhswolfpack on Twitter and sfmhsathletics on Instagram to keep students and faculty updated on any sporting events.

He’s been creating bigger student sections at our sporting events by Tweeting and asking students who’ve been regularly attending to spread the word.

Mr. Harris has been chosen to move the school forward, and he will do just that.
